2018: Book #36

“His powerful arm is also His arm of tender care.”

I love that sentence. It’s from a favorite book that I just completed again: “Trusting God” by Jerry Bridges.

Here are some more powerful statements from the book…

“God controls both the good and the bad. God has not looked the other way or been caught by surprise when adversity strikes us. He is in control of that adversity, directing it to His glory and our good.”

“Because God is sovereign, He is able to answer. Because He is faithful to His promises, He will answer.”

“He does not delight in causing us to experience pain or heartache. He always has a purpose for the grief He brings or allows to come into our lives. Most often we do not know what that purpose is, but it is enough to know that His infinite wisdom and perfect love have determined that the particular sorrow is best for us. GOD NEVER WASTES PAIN. He always uses it to accomplish His purpose. And His purpose is for His glory and our good. Therefore, we can trust Him when our hearts are aching and our bodies are racked with pain.”

“That He cares not is just as unthinkable as that He cannot.”

“God’s guidance is almost always step-by-step; He does not show us our life’s plan all at once. Sometimes our anxiousness to know the will of God comes from a desire to “peer over God’s shoulder” to see what His plan is. What we need to do is learn to trust Him to guide us.”

Powerful. True.

Read this book; it is nothing short of life-changing. It is soaked in scripture.

Bridges bases His book on these three truths: God is sovereign. God is wise. God loves us.

This book was such a great help to me. Half the book is probably highlighted or underlined. It’s that good. In my opinion, this should be mandatory reading for any follower of Jesus.

I give it 5 stars out of 5.

That’s book #36 for 2018.

16 more to go to reach 52 by the end of the year.

Remember, all leaders are readers.
