2020: Book #36
The title of David Rubenstein’s new book is misleading.
He’s titled it, “How to Lead: Wisdom from the World’s Greatest CEOs, Founders, and Game Changers.”
But here’s the problem: there’s very little about “how to lead” in the book.
Rubenstein conducted interviews with some of the greatest entrepreneurs and leaders known today, but the questions were scattered, not focused.
Is there good content in the book? Yes.
Should you read it? Yes.
However, don’t read it with the assumption that you’ll walk away with a treasure chest full of leadership wisdom.
Here are a few helpful quotes to give you a feel for the book:
From Bill Gates: “You always know you could be doing better, that you should learn more, be building the team and thinking about things in a better way. You see the positive results, but you always want to do even better.”
From Jeff Bezos: “…as a senior executive, what do you really get paid to do? You get paid to make a small number of high-quality decisions. Your job is not to make thousands of decisions every day. If I make three good decisions a day, that’s enough. Warren Buffet says he’s good if he makes three good decisions a year. I really believe that.”
I give the book 3 out of 5 stars.
Good read but it doesn’t feed the soul.
That’s book #36 for 2020.
