Magnificent.
Epic.
I rarely use those words to describe a book, but that’s exactly how I feel about “Every Drop of Blood: The Momentous Second Inauguration of Abraham Lincoln” by Edward Achorn.
Achorn paints a striking picture as to what was occurring in the nation as Lincoln was set to deliver his second inaugural.
What’s so amazing to me is that we get a front seat to view Lincoln’s faith come alive.
He articulates God’s role in the Civil War…how the Almighty’s Hand guided the nation through a war and left us, hopefully, a better country.
You also feel the tension rising.
The anger in the country is mounting.
Booth is on the hunt and will soon kill his prey.
This book is an important work in Lincoln lore.
Read it.
Digest it.
Learn from it.
I give it 5 stars out of a possible 5.
That’s book #13 for 2020.
