2018: Book #46

“There are a million cheap seats in the world today filled with people who will never be brave with their lives but who will spend every ounce of energy they have hurling advice and judgment at those who dare greatly.”

The quote is from page 20 of Brene’ Brown’s new book, “Dare to Lead.”

WHAT A BOOK!

Powerful. Impactful. Life changing. Organizational changing.

There are still a few more books left for me to read before the end of the year, but more than likely this is my book of the year.

How impactful was it? Every team member at Positive Alternative Radio will read it in 2019. We will read it together as an organization. I want it to change us and change how we work, how we meet, and how we engage each other. I want terms like Rumble, TASC and Paint Done to become part of our everyday lives.

Failure is a part of life. My desire is for every team member to take a risk. One of Brown’s  grand points: She has taught her teams how to get back up once they fail so they have the confidence to try again.

Trust me, by this time next year…they will know.

Some more quotes…

“When we define ourselves by what everyone thinks, it’s hard to be brave.”

“If you need a rubric for choosing the people, here’s the best I have: The people on your list should be the people who love you not despite your vulnerability and imperfections, but because of them.”

“Being angry is okay. Yelling is not okay.

“Being frustrated is okay. Interrupting people and rolling your eyes is not okay. The emotion is okay. Passive-aggressive comments and put-downs are not okay.”

I could type half of the book here, but I won’t. This book has changed me. It has helped me grow.

This book will change PAR.

It will help us grow.

“Dare to Lead” by Brene’ Brown will become a significant part of the DNA of Positive Alternative Radio’s culture and leadership.

The book is that good. It’s that important.

READ THIS BOOK.

I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

That’s book #46 for 2018.

6 more to go to reach 52 before the end of the year.

Remember, all leaders are readers.
If you want to be a better leader…be a reader.
